Ammar Zoni Transferred to Cipinang Prison for Smooth Trial

Kapanlagi.com - The transfer of Ammar Zoni from Nusakambangan to Jakarta Narcotics Prison was not done without reason. The Directorate General of Corrections emphasized that this step was taken to support the smooth and expedited trial process.

The Public Relations of the Directorate General of Corrections, Rika Aprianti, stated that although the former husband of Irish Bella falls into the high-risk inmate category, the needs of the trial remain a primary consideration. "There are certainly considerations, and there is also the need for the trial. As we have mentioned before, we strongly support that this trial process is completed quickly," Rika stated when met at her office in Central Jakarta on Monday (15/12).

1. Placed in a Special Block

While at the Jakarta Narcotics Prison, Ammar Zoni was placed in a Special Placement or Patsus, an area designated for inmates with high security.

"Five people. So that block or place, it’s called Patsus, right, Special Placement," he said.

2. Ammar's Category Remains High Risk

Although he is in the same room with four other inmates, the former husband of Irish Bella remains separated from the general detainees and receives special supervision.

"And indeed the same, because his category is high risk, his placement is also alone. They are five in total, but they are indeed separated from the other inmates," he explained.

3. Operational Standards

Additional security procedures implemented, including eye covers during transfers, are considered part of the operational standards applicable to high-risk detainees.

"Yes, there is already an SOP for that because it falls into the high-risk category," said Rika.

4. Ammar Undergoes Periodic Assessment

Rika emphasized that placement in Nusakambangan is not permanent because every inmate, including Ammar Zoni, will undergo periodic risk assessments.

"Nusakambangan, that is the Super Maximum Security Prison, all inmates undergo assessments after 6 months," she asserted.

"So having us designate someone as high risk does not mean they will be there forever," she concluded.

5. Legal Counsel Considers Crucial Step

Jon Mathias revealed that the permit to present Ammar in person in the courtroom was finally granted after coordination reached the ministerial level. The legal counsel considers this step very crucial so that Ammar can defend himself optimally without the technical difficulties that usually occur in online hearings.

"Yes, as you can see, that was initially a request from the lawyer. After that, it was addressed by the judge by making a decree. With that decree, it was finally quickly controlled. Because of the MOU regulations," said Jon Mathias when met at Cipinang Prison, East Jakarta, Wednesday (17/12/2025).

6. The Process Involves Various Parties

The temporary transfer process of Ammar for this trial involves various parties, including the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. According to Jon, the response from the ministry was very positive as they understood the legal needs of the defendant.

"Well, after the Minister of Law and Human Rights was informed by the prosecutor directly to his minister and to the Minister of Law and Human Rights, finally the Minister of Law and Human Rights is a lawyer. Then the prison minister also responded, knowing the rules of lawyers. In the end, he gave orders to the Director General to issue a kind of permit for Ammar to be temporarily transferred here to attend the offline trial," explained Jon Mathias.

7. Ammar's Physical Presence Has Psychological Impact

For the legal team, Ammar's physical presence in the trial will have a positive psychological impact. Ammar is expected to be calmer in providing statements and listening to testimonies.

"Yes, it is definitely a good step. Because with him being present directly in the trial, it means he will provide statements verbally, without any psychological pressure," he said.
