Ammar Zoni's Shocked Family Moved to Nusakambangan

The news of Ammar Zoni's transfer to the super strict Nusakambangan prison surprisingly did not reach the family. His younger brother, Aditya Zoni, admitted he was very shocked and only learned of the news after it became headlines in various media outlets. 

He also questioned the procedure, which he felt did not inform the family beforehand. He stated that he did not receive any official notification before his brother's transfer took place in the early hours.

"Previously, I had no idea at all. I was shocked to find out through the media. Why wasn't the family informed first?" said Aditya Zoni when met in the Sudirman area, Central Jakarta, Thursday (16/10/2025).

Feeling strange, Aditya immediately went to Cipinang Prison to seek clarification. However, the answer he received only confused him further, as the prison claimed to have sent a notification letter to the family.

"So I went to Cipinang Prison. Then they said they had informed the family, that the letter had been given to them. I said, 'Where? I didn't receive it.' I mean, it can't be like that according to the SOP," he revealed.

Aditya's shock deepened when he saw photos and videos of Ammar's transfer that circulated widely. In the visuals, Ammar was escorted with his head covered with a black cloth and his hands and feet chained, a treatment he deemed very excessive."I swear, honestly, I was really shocked. I was in shock. Until now, I’m still thinking about it. My brother looks like the cartels in Mexico," he said.

Meanwhile, Ammar's attorney, Jon Mathias, believes that this transfer seems rushed and violates the presumption of innocence. According to him, Ammar was transferred even before the case of his alleged involvement in drug trafficking in the detention center was proven in court.

"With this, there is an impression for the public as if Ammar is going to be silenced. Silenced, and then isolated so that he cannot speak the truth in court," concluded Jon Mathias.

Ammar Zoni was transferred to the Super Maximum Security Prison in Karanganyar, Nusakambangan, because he is considered a high-risk inmate after allegedly being involved in a drug network in the Salemba Detention Center for the fourth time.
