The earthquake occurred on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 05:58 WITA. The epicenter was in the sea about 30 kilometers northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, at a depth of 10-15 kilometers.
The tremors were felt in various areas of Flores. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a tsunami early warning after the event.
Based on data updates until Sunday (16/8/2026) at 00:00 WIB, 47 people were reported dead and thousands of residents were displaced.
Damage to housing includes 914 heavily damaged houses, 126 moderately damaged houses, and 317 lightly damaged houses. Affected public facilities include 93 educational facilities, 36 health facilities, and 38 government offices.
