Kapanlagi.com - Perhaps not many people know that Astrid, the wife of Uya Kuya, used to be a non-Muslim. However, in order to marry the presenter, magician, and singer, she was willing to convert to Islam. Interestingly, her entire extended family is non-Muslim, and both of her parents are pastors.

Astrid herself shared this story when she was a guest on Atiek Nur Wahyuni's Youtube channel, who is the CEO of Trans TV. The unique fact is that Astrid was already interested in learning about Islam long before she met Uya.

"So, my family is all non-Muslim, and my parents are pastors. So when I wanted to marry him (Uya), who is a Muslim, I had to convert. But from the beginning, I already believed in Islam since my second year of college, long before I met him (Uya). My mom was like, 'Does my child really have to change religion?'. Wow, it caused a commotion at home," Astrid recalled.

1. Mukena Sampai Dibuang Orangtua

Love stories of different religions often bring intense drama, especially within families. Astrid, who admitted to facing opposition in her relationship with Uya, experienced the same. She even had to convert her faith.

"I tried to learn how to pray, but my family was disappointed to the point that they threw my prayer mat out and fought with me. My mother even said, 'If you live with me, you have to follow what I say. You won't marry a Muslim.'' My family scolded and cursed me," said the mother of two.

2. Terus Salat dan Berdoa

Despite the hardships, Astrid remained steadfast in her decision. She started learning how to pray and constantly prayed for a smooth journey with Uya. Eventually, her mother's heart softened.

"During every prayer, I would say, 'Oh Allah, if he is truly my fate, keep bringing him closer to my family.'' Alhamdulillah, I continued to pray, and eventually, my mother opened her heart and said, 'I know that you are the one leading this life, the one who wants to get married is you. So, you are the one who will live it all, you can be with him.'' That was the moment when I felt okay, that this was my path, that Uya is my destiny," continued Astrid.

3. After Marriage Still Filled with Trials

After finally receiving blessings and going through the wedding ceremony, the drama didn't stop there. Of course, Astrid's family still had many heavy disappointments. However, slowly they could start opening their minds to continue loving each other despite different beliefs.

"At the beginning of the marriage, it was like that, a bit distant because they felt disappointed that their child had to change religion. Every time I pray, I say, I love my mom and dad, I don't want to be far from them just because I got married. I always pray, 'Oh Allah, bring my husband closer to them, even though we have different religions, we are still one.' I can't choose between my husband and my family." Alhamdulillah, the more I pray, now my mom talks to him (Uya)," said Astrid Margaretha, the woman's full name.
