Barasuara sees the current development of the Indonesian music industry as being in a very positive phase. Technological advancements are believed to have opened up many opportunities for musicians to create and reach audiences internationally.
According to Iga Massardi, Indonesian music now has a very rich diversity of genres and is capable of competing with the music industries of other countries.
"Indonesian music is really cool. All genres are already present, ranging from jazz, punk, rock, pop, to Latin and bossa nova. The production and distribution methods have also evolved. Whether recording in a home studio or a professional studio, everything can now be done by Indonesian musicians," said Iga Massardi when met at Studio 6 Emtek City, West Jakarta, Thursday (18/6/2026).
This development, he continued, is evident from the increasing number of Indonesian musicians performing on various international stages. According to Barasuara, geographic boundaries are no longer an obstacle to introducing their work to the world.
"Now Indonesian music can go anywhere. Many musicians are performing in Japan, America, and various other countries. Recently, there was Voice of Baceprot performing at Glastonbury. This shows that Indonesian music continues to evolve and hopefully will keep evolving," he explained.
Iga believes that award events like the SCTV Music Awards play an important role in encouraging the emergence of new talents. In addition to providing appreciation, the event also serves as an effective promotional platform for musicians.
"This could be a trigger for fellow musicians in Indonesia. This event is broadcast nationally, so it can motivate them to continue creating and see that SCTV cares about musical talents in Indonesia," he said.
In addition to the development of modern music genres, Barasuara also highlights the increasing attention to regional music, which is now gaining a wider place in the national music industry.
"Every region has its own exoticism. Regional songs also prove to have a very large audience," said Iga.
