Betrand Peto Reveals Favorite Foods During Lunar New Year, There Are 2 Must-Have Dishes

Celebrating Lunar New Year every year makes Betrand Peto increasingly familiar with various Chinese cultural traditions. Although he comes from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Onyo admits he does not find it difficult to blend in and follow the customs of his parents' extended family, Ruben Onsu and Sarwendah.

Onyo explains that he has been accustomed to the lifestyle and traditions taught by his parents since he joined the family. For him, following Lunar New Year traditions is part of the process of learning to appreciate a culture that has now become part of his life.

"Adapting exactly. Not surprised, but adapting yes. Because it has been there from Dad and Mom before. Likewise, I just entrusted it to my Grandfather," said Betrand Peto when met in the Senayan area on Monday (16/2/2026).

One of the things Onyo looks forward to during Chinese New Year is the culinary offerings. There are two must-have dishes that he believes should be on the dining table.

These two must-have dishes have been his favorites for a long time because they hold symbolic meaning in the Chinese New Year celebration.

"Noodles, right? Noodles and eggs, right? Noodles and red eggs, right? Those are my favorites. Maybe it's because I don't really understand about the Chinese New Year customs. But what I know is that when I celebrated with my Grandfather, we ate noodles and eggs," he said.

The uniqueness of the dish is inseparable from the person who cooks it. Onyo admits that he really enjoys his grandmother's cooking, who is affectionately called Nana.

It's not without reason; Onyo feels that his grandmother's cooking is made with love for all family members.

"So I adjust to what Nana (Grandma) cooks, oh this is for this, so I eat. Because I'm also happy that Nana likes to cook, so I eat what Nana cooks," explained Onyo.
