Build a Luxury House with a Resort Concept, Mona Ratuliu and Indra Brasco Experience 4 Times Budget Increase

Kapanlagi.com - Artists Mona Ratuliu and Indra Brasco are currently in the process of building their luxury house. Mona also shared about the progress of their new house.

Initially, Mona and her husband targeted to finish it within six months. However, after three years have passed, their house construction is still not completed.

"The initial target was only 6 months, but it's been almost 3 years and it's still not finished. Maybe because we had many desires, it became a bit overwhelming when building," said Mona Ratuliu when met at JCC, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (7/1/2024).

"The cost is similar between something ugly and something good because there will still be painting, cement, and bricks. So in the end, we decided to make it better since we're already doing it," added Mona.

1. Resort Concept

Mona explained that their new house has a concept similar to a resort, complete with a swimming pool and natural elements such as stone and wood.

"Actually, the concept is more like a resort. Because there is also a swimming pool there, we don't really like the luxurious concept because it makes it quite stiff," said Mona.

"When we talk, it feels like there's a barrier or something, so we want it to be warmer, with lots of wooden elements, and also with stone elements that have natural colors," Mona continued.

2. Budget Overrun

The reason behind this kind of house concept is the inspiration they got from staying at a villa. "The inspiration comes from when we stayed at a villa, it was so fun. So, we want the atmosphere to be like that because my family and I are all the type of people who enjoy staying at home. So we want to make the house better so that we can enjoy staying at home even more," she said.

However, because the house they built is so luxurious, the budget spent by Mona and her husband exceeded their initial estimates.

"The budget can't really be mentioned, but it's about 3 to 4 times more than the initial budget. So the initial budget was a certain amount, but it turned out to be multiplied, there were so many unexpected expenses, especially the small ones," she said.

3. Surrender

Although their new house is almost finished, Mona and her husband no longer set a specific target time to start living in it. "Yesterday, the target to finish in September failed, November failed too, December failed as well so that we could celebrate New Year in the house. So now we are kind of surrendering because it turns out the final finishing touches are small, we didn't think about it but it takes quite a long time," she said.

"Like for example, now we are painting, we painted it but the color is wrong, it needs to be peeled off again and it turns out that takes quite a long time so we kind of surrender even though there's just a little left," she concluded.
