Bunga Zainal Expresses Disappointment Over Sentence of Fraud Case Perpetrators, Demands Fairer Punishment

In August 2024, Bunga Zainal reported a case of fraudulent investment that affected her to the Metro Jaya Police. Together with her husband, she suffered total losses amounting to IDR 15 billion due to being promised large profits through a property project that never materialized.

The police subsequently named two suspects and immediately detained them at Cipinang and Pondok Bambu detention centers in early February 2025. The case proceeded to court, and the trial process took place in several stages until a verdict was finally reached.

On July 14, 2025, the panel of judges sentenced both defendants to two years in prison. Previously, the public prosecutor had demanded a sentence of 3 years and 6 months for each defendant. The judge's decision was based on humanitarian reasons, such as the responsibilities of the defendants towards their children and parents. This made Bunga Zainal feel very devastated and disappointed.

Through Instagram, Bunga openly expressed her frustration. She feels that the light sentence makes the perpetrator unrepentant and could lead them to commit the same crime again. She also stated that the psychological effects of the fraud are very significant, not only on herself but also on her children and family.

Bunga questioned the legal logic that prioritizes humanitarian reasons for the defendant while forgetting the suffering of the victims. She mentioned that she also has two children and elderly parents who are sick. According to her, the victims are also human beings whose lives have been shattered due to the crime. She demands that the perspective of the victims be given more attention, not just the leniency shown to the defendant.

She strongly criticizes the legal system, which is considered ineffective in deterring criminals. Bunga states that offenders can leave prison with a sweet smile and no sense of guilt. She adds that her losses are not only material but also include time, energy, and mental distress caused by this case.

Bunga Zainal emphasizes that she will not give up and will continue to fight for justice. She urges prosecutors and law enforcement to view this case comprehensively and not just consider the defendant's side. She also hopes that the hashtag #noviralnojustice will no longer be needed, as justice can be upheld even without viral pressure. “I hope justice still exists and I will fight for it,” Bunga wrote.
