Cannot Go Home for Eid, Andien: Longing Keeps Our Connection

Kapanlagi.com - The ongoing pandemic in Indonesia has led Andien to choose not to go home for Eid. Usually, she always goes back to her family's home in Karanganyar, Kebumen.

But this year, once again, the government prohibits going home to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Andien obediently refrains from the tradition of going back to her hometown and interprets it with deep meaning.

1. Not Going Home

For Andien, not going home is a way to cultivate longing for family members she hasn't seen in a long time. It could be a way to maintain relationships and keep them warm.

I had a conversation with some friends who couldn't go home, and many of them shared their feelings on Instagram DM. The ban on going home might make some of us feel disappointed. We miss them so much, but we still can't meet our families at home. The longing is unbearable, but I believe that longing is what keeps our relationship intact.

I hope this year's Eid without going home doesn't prevent us from 'going home' within ourselves.

2. Family Has Experienced Covid-19

Not going home for Andien is not just a campaign. She really didn't do it so that the spread of covid-19 wouldn't get worse.

With the experience of her parents having contracted covid-19 and having to be treated in the hospital, Andien knows very well that corona does exist.
