Kapanlagi.com - The continued hearing of the drug abuse case involving senior musician Fariz RM has once again been postponed. The hearing scheduled for the reading of the charges by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) that was supposed to take place at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday, July 21, 2025, has been postponed until next week.
According to Fariz RM's attorney, Deolipa Yumara, the reason for this postponement is that the prosecutor's office is not yet ready with the charge documents that will be read. The judge has granted one week for the prosecutor to prepare their charges.
"The prosecutor requested to postpone the reading of the charges because the charges are not ready. The documents for the prosecution have not been prepared yet," said Deolipa Yumara at the South Jakarta District Court, Monday (21/7/2025).
The panel of judges ultimately decided to postpone the hearing until July 28. One of the considerations for this postponement is that the case involving the singer of the songs "Sakura" and "Barcelona" is considered to attract public attention.
"I give one week until July 28, two weeks is too long," said the Chief Judge.

Fariz RM himself admitted that he does not have an issue with the postponement. According to his lawyer, his client now has time to formulate a strategy and prepare a defense statement or plea. The legal team hopes that their client can be charged as lightly as possible, and if possible, be rehabilitated.
Deolipa Yumara argues that the article charged against Fariz RM, namely as a dealer, is not accurate. According to him, Fariz is a user who should be charged under the article regarding users, namely Article 127, which was not applied in the indictment.
"We hope that, because the article is misdirected, there is actually one article for users, which is Article 127. But that article was not applied in the prosecution. Thus, the Prosecutor will only charge him as a dealer, of course," said Deolipa.

In this case, Fariz RM was charged with violating Article 114 paragraph (1) and Article 112 paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. The 66-year-old musician was arrested along with his driver on February 18, 2025, in Bandung, West Java. This arrest marks the fourth time for Fariz RM in a similar case, having previously been arrested in 2007, 2015, and 2018.
