Chikita Meidy Sued Back by Husband and Asked to Pay Rp938 Million

1. Surprised by the Counterclaim

He admitted to being surprised by the contents of the counterclaim he just received after the mediation process was declared a failure. In the lawsuit, Indra requested Chikita to return the wedding dowry as well as the down payment (DP) and installments for the house that have been ongoing.

"In the seventh hearing, I was just handed what is called a counterclaim, surprise today. The defendant rejected all claims. So now, he states that he wants a divorce, okay, but here in the counterclaim, Indra states that I am to be punished to return the dowry to him," said Chikita Meidy after the trial at the Tigaraksa Religious Court, recently.

Chikita details the financial claims addressed to her. Indra is requesting a refund of the down payment for the house amounting to Rp410,442,400, plus the mortgage installments that have been paid 41 times totaling Rp528 million. This makes Chikita feel very confused and unfair, considering she has also contributed to the payment of those installments.

"So I am asked to pay Indra Rp938 million, friends, huh? Where he is the debtor, and when paying for the house, he asked for my help to pay for the house, which means I deposited into his account to make the payment, which means that money is mine. Then I asked him to return it to me," she explained.

In addition to financial demands, the reasons behind Indra's counterclaim have also come under scrutiny. Chikita revealed that her husband accused her of being a disobedient wife or nusyuz. According to her, the label of nusyuz was attached because she refused to support her husband's bad habits, including online gambling.

"In this counterclaim, he wrote that during my time as his wife, I did not obey him. Obeying in the sense that I did not support his cunning tricks. For example, he plays online gambling, I certainly do not support that. Now, according to him, that is part of me being nusyuz," Chikita explained.

Chikita also questioned the timing of the counterclaim, which she found suspicious. She feels that the legal process has been deliberately complicated, even though the judges had previously stated they would make a firm decision if the defendant did not show good faith.

"In my opinion, this is not valid because it has already passed mediation. Mediation has failed, so why file a counterclaim now? Unless he attended the mediation," she said.

"Yeah, it all sounds like, 'Oh, it turns out that for 9 years he was with me.' I was just made into a joint ATM, that's it," she concluded.
