Cinta Laura's Moment of Being Treated Unequally as a Speaker: I Was Led to the Wives' Table

Cinta Laura revealed an unpleasant experience when she was a speaker at a prestigious university. Although she is known as an inspiring figure, Cinta felt unequal treatment simply because she is a woman.

When met in the Gambir area of Central Jakarta some time ago, Cinta recounted the moment clearly. She was the only female speaker at the event and felt treated differently from the start.

"I once became a speaker at one university... but there were no women, all men," said Cinta.

What made her feel awkward was when she was not invited to sit with the other speakers, but rather directed to a table occupied by the wives of the speakers and the university rector.

"Instead of being invited to sit at the same table as the other speakers, I was suddenly directed to other tables where the wives of the speakers and the university rector were seated," she recalled.

Although she appreciates the roles of those wives, Cinta believes that the treatment reflects the inequality that women still often experience in professional environments.

"The problem is why I, as a speaker, was not at the same table as the other speakers. That’s the question for me," she said.

Feeling uncomfortable, Cinta eventually decided to sit at the male speakers' table and remain professional. However, she could sense the tension from her fellow panelists.

"When I got on stage and spoke as a seminar speaker, I was asked questions that addressed inequality," she explained. She also used the incident 15 minutes before going on stage as a real example of discrimination that occurs subtly yet still feels painful. /aal
