Actress Anya Geraldine shares the challenges she faces while playing Naya, the main character in the film MENDADAK DANGDUT which will be released on April 30, 2025. Anya admitted to feeling anxious because Naya's character is very different from the roles she has played before.
"Perhaps personally I have been given the opportunity and trust to play the challenging role of Naya," said Anya when met in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (22/4/2025).
As a pop singer who must disguise herself as a dangdut singer, Anya has to go through a series of vocal training and typical dangdut choreography. "Yes, here I have to learn to sing dangdut, dance, and the acting range is not easy," she said.
She also felt nervous when she had to duet with Keanu Angelo in the song Terlanjur Basah because both of them have different vocal characteristics.
"Yeah, I think the song that duets with Keanu is the one, the song Terlanjur Basah. He has a certain vocal range and I also have to reach higher notes, so it matches," she explained.
Even so, Anya admitted that this process was very enjoyable because she could expand her abilities in the world of acting as well as music. She also mentioned that she learned a lot from Dwi Sasono and Monty Tiwa, who are experienced in previous projects.
In addition, Anya felt touched by the development of the character Naya, who initially was just a spoiled diva, transformed into a more caring and down-to-earth person.
"Yes, I really like Naya's transformation. From being very glamorous to finally being close to the people, close to dangdut," she said. She hopes this role can open more doors for other acting challenges in the future.
