The love story of Anies Baswedan and Fery Farhati will soon be on the big screen through the film SENYUM MANIES LOVE STORY which will be released starting June 12, 2025. This film is a collaboration between the production house Berkah Menara Sinema and Bennatin Cipta Surya.
This film was initially planned to highlight Anies' career journey in the political world. However, director Ronny Mepet received direct input from Anies to explore the romantic side of his life. Here are the details.
"Mr. Anies said, ‘Wow, if the story is about me being governor, about me being a Minister, a lecturer, everyone already knows that, but they don’t know how my romantic story goes,’" said Ronny Mepet in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta, Monday (21/4/2025).
To strengthen the story, Ronny collaborated with renowned screenwriter Tisa T. S., known for popular romantic films such as Magic Hour, Love Letters for Starla, and London Love Story.
"I am confident that with Ms. Tisa's writing, this story will resonate deeply and have unique touches," Ronny continued.
Young actor Fahad Haydra has been entrusted to portray the young Anies Baswedan. To dive into this role, Fahad had to undergo a physical transformation and adjust his hairstyle to resemble Anies during his college years at UGM.
"For the hairstyle, I once visited Mr. Anies' house and was shown documentation of him when he was young," said Fahad Haydra.
Not only that, Fahad is also willing to lose 5 kilograms to convincingly portray young Anies. He refers to this process as a challenge in itself.
"The photos of Mr. Anies during college show him quite thin, so I have to lose weight too. His hair was also styled to match his characteristic look at that time," Fahad added.
The film SENYUM MANIES LOVE STORY not only tells the story of the meeting between Anies and Fery during college, but also the dilemma of a love triangle involving the character Sinta. Anies must choose between love and the future.
