Clarification from SCTV Regarding Allegations of Adult Storyline in the Soap Opera 'Dari Jendela SMP'

Kapanlagi.com - One of SCTV's latest flagship soap operas, Dari Jendela SMP, has received both praise and criticism from the public. Some viewers consider it unique and different from most other soap operas, but there are also many who think that its classification is not suitable for teenage themes because it tells the story of pregnancy out of wedlock.

Furthermore, some people have started reporting the show Dari Jendela SMP to the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) for review. In response to the complaints received, the KPI is currently conducting a further study on the soap opera.

Meanwhile, SCTV confirms that the viewers' enthusiasm for Dari Jendela SMP is very high. And according to them, the presence of praise and criticism is something normal.

"Actually, we are very happy because within a week of airing, it turns out that the number of fans is very high. If we look at previous experiences, almost all soap operas with many fans will always receive praise and criticism. There will always be those who are not happy, those who condemn, and those who don't like it," said David Suwarto, Deputy Director of Programming at SCTV, when contacted by KapanLagi.com via phone on Tuesday (7/7/2020).

1. Clarification About the Storyline of Pregnancy Outside of Marriage

Furthermore, David clarifies the story of pregnancy outside of marriage that has become a debate among viewers. According to him, there have been many changes and adjustments to the original story, which is based on Mira W's book with the same title.

"Coincidentally, Dari Jendela SMP is adapted from Mira W's book that has been circulating for a long time, with the theme of pregnancy during junior high school. But we know that this is an adaptation for television, so we change the story so that there is no pregnancy during junior high school, it's just a misunderstanding," David continues.

David also tries to explain the chronology of the story to emphasize that there is no adult content at all in the soap opera Dari Jendela SMP.

"If the viewers watch, from the first episode alone, it is already shown that the test pack used is expired, but that information is not captured by the person who bought the test pack, so they thought they were pregnant. Actually, if the viewers watch, there will be no question about whether they are pregnant or not. It's certain that they are not pregnant. Viewers at home must know that because this is a show for the people, a television show, there will definitely be no adult scenes. What happens, which is suspected to be the process of pregnancy, is that they made an appointment, and coincidentally it rained and they fell asleep. When they woke up, they thought they were pregnant. These are innocent junior high school students who don't know anything and think that just sleeping together can result in pregnancy. So that's actually how it is," David explains.

From the Window of Junior High School airs under the SinemArt umbrella, which is known for producing various popular shows in Indonesia. Even before starting the collaboration and production, SCTV has considered many things related to the storyline of each show.

"SinemArt already knows the directions and limitations from KPI such as P3 SPS. Even without P3 SPS, we have a conscience not to damage the nation. So we are very cautious. That's why if you see SCTV's content, there is nothing mystical or horror because we want to maintain the quality of the show. That's why the production house we collaborate with, Sinemart in this case, automatically censors themselves. They also regulate that there will be no pregnancies during junior high school. If the story progresses to high school or university and suddenly there's a pregnancy, then it's okay. But during junior high school, it's better not to. That's it. And it turns out their guess is correct," David concluded.
