Controversy over Painting Contest, Vanessa Angel Criticized by One Artist

Kapanlagi.com - Vanessa Angel released a painting contest with prizes for anyone willing to paint her small family. She announced this contest through her social media channels on Twitter and Instagram.

"Guys, please inform if there are accounts of your friends who can paint our photo on canvas with a size of (p) 135 x 105 (L) or even larger, it's also allowed," wrote Vanessa Angel on Instagram and Twitter, Friday (23/7/2021).

The photo she referred to is a family photo of herself with her husband, Bibi Ardiansyah, and their little son, Gala. In the photo, Vanessa, Bibi, and Gala are seen wearing white clothes while posing on a bed with the same color.

For this contest, Vanessa Angel promises a prize of Rp.5 million for the best artwork chosen by herself.

"I will pay 5,000,000 for the best painting! If your friend's recommendation is selected, I will also give them 250,000. Thank you," Vanessa Angel promised, completing her contest.

Although at first glance the competition seems cool and exciting, in reality Vanessa Angel's idea is heavily criticized by a painter artist named Guruh Ramdani.

Through his Twitter account, @RamdaniGuruh, Guruh Ramdani expressed his disappointment with the method offered by the painting competition. He felt that Vanessa Angel would end up getting a lot of artwork by only paying for one piece that she deemed the best.

According to Guruh Ramdani, the competition created by Vanessa is quite beneficial for people who have pioneered the art of painting with their creativity.

"5 million is quite good, especially for friends who are building a career in the arts. The problem is, this is not a definite order, but more like a competition, where you have already created something sacrificing your time, energy, and personal expenses, but there is no guarantee of appreciation," wrote Guruh Ramdani.

2. No Need to Be Responded

Furthermore, Guruh urges not to respond to the Vanessa Angel contest because it is not equal between capital, creative process, and appreciation given.

"She wants the best work. If she wants the best, the reward should also be the best. If this is the way, then there is no need to respond," he said.

"She only releases a fraction, but there will be many works that are collected and wasted," Guruh concluded.
