Dewa 19 Still Survives for 30 Years, Ahmad Dhani: We Really Understand Queen's Way of Working

Not only surviving, Dewa 19 also still maintains its existence in the Indonesian music scene until now. Dewa 19's frontman, Ahmad Dhani, revealed the recipe that makes his band still survive until now.

"Why does Dewa 19 survive? Because I am a fan of Queen. From Queen, we learned a lot. Even our fate is the same as Queen's, being left by its singer. So, Andra might know that Queen has top-notch recipes that can be learned actually," said Ahmad Dhani at FX Jakarta Selatan, Thursday (30/6).

1. Applying Queen's Techniques

Then, Ahmad Dhani explained that Dewa 19 applies Queen's techniques in creating hit songs. Every album released, Queen always produces hits that are eventually loved by their fans.

"One of the recipes is to create one album with many good songs. Most people usually make two good songs on an album, one good song, like that. But we don't," said Dhani.

"From our first, second, third, fourth, fifth album, even Once was a witness when we made the BINTANG LIMA (FIVE STARS) album, almost all the songs were not pointless," added Ahmad Dhani.

2. Remembered for Phenomenal Works

Apparently, that method was deemed appropriate to elevate Dewa 19 as one of the greatest bands in Indonesia. Despite the changing personnel, the name Dewa 19 ultimately remained memorable because of their phenomenal works.

"So that's the technical explanation. We are fans of Queen and we really understand how Queen works. Queen is a legendary band until now that we can imitate, we can adapt," concluded Ahmad Dhani.
