Dewi Perssik: Becoming a Singer Also Requires Attention to Stage Attitude

Listen and Kiara performed a duet of the song "Cuma Satu" on the Dangdut Academy 8 stage that aired on Tuesday (21/7/2026). The two were paired by Coach Fildan because they were deemed to have similar playful and spoiled characters. Although they managed to entertain, their performance did not earn a standing ovation (SO) from Soimah, Dewi Perssik, and Lesti.

After the performance, Dewi Perssik praised the vocal quality of both. However, she also pointed out several areas that needed improvement, from tempo control to energy while performing on stage.

"Both were entertaining, their voices were good. I just want to give some advice. Kiara was so energetic that she went off tempo, while Listen was less energetic," said Dewi Perssik.

According to Dewi Perssik, a singer is not only required to have good vocal abilities but must also pay attention to their attitude while on stage. For her, the movements made by the singer should remain in sync with the rhythm of the song and not disrupt the performance.

"A singer should not only be able to sing, but their performance or stage attitude is important. That person doesn't have to dance wildly left and right, but they need to sing in tune, and their movements should match the beat," she explained.

She then provided her assessment of each participant. Dewi liked Kiara's vocal character but reminded the participant to maintain the tempo. Meanwhile, for Listen, she hoped the performance could be more lively and expressive.

"If you (Kiara) sing Mother, I like it, your playful voice is on point. The only drawback was the off tempo earlier. As for Listen, it felt like she hadn't eaten before singing, it was weak, less playful, and less expressive," said Dewi Perssik.

When asked by Ramzi about which participant she preferred, Dewi Perssik admitted that she chose Kiara in terms of vocals. According to her, Listen actually has potential in terms of appearance if she can add power while singing."In terms of singing, I like Kiara. But in terms of appearance, actually Listen, if she adds power, would be better. So the conclusion is, in terms of voice, I choose Kiara," she said.

Lesti also gave notes to both participants. She assessed that Kiara and Listen were both too rushed when entering the RAL (rhythm and lead) section, thus losing the opportunity to showcase their abilities in interpreting the song."Kiara and Listen are both in a hurry, even though no one is waiting. In fact, the RAL is where you show your skills. That's where you have the opportunity to showcase your great abilities," said Lesti.

Meanwhile, Soimah added that the beginning part of the song should be utilized to build the story that wants to be conveyed to the audience. She also assessed that the choreography of the duet is still not uniform and some of the improvisations displayed have not been maximized.

"There’s a technique to catch your breath. Because you are in a hurry in front of it, you don’t have the opportunity to catch your breath. RAL is the beginning of life, the beginning of you telling the story within the song. Besides what Dewi has discussed earlier, the choreography is not uniform, energy and others, there are some improvements that I think are not maximal," said Soimah.

Responding to the judges' comments, Coach Fildan acknowledged that each participant still has homework to do. According to him, Listen needs to improve pitch accuracy, while Kiara needs to enhance her dynamics in singing."Kiara and Listen indeed, if Listen's weakness is in her voice, sometimes some notes are missed. If Kiara is actually already good, just her dynamics need to be added more," said Fildan.
