Dul Jaelani Is Not Ashamed of His 'Medok' Accent, Teaches Safeaa & Ali Javanese at Home

As an older brother, Dul Jaelani has his own way of instilling a love for the homeland in his younger siblings, Safeea Ahmad and Muhammad Ali. His method is very simple and starts from the closest environment, which is home.

Dul believes that character education, including nationalism, begins with daily habits within the family.

According to him, one small step that is often forgotten is preserving the mother tongue or local language. He highlights the phenomenon of many young people who are ashamed to speak with their regional accent or medok.

"A small example is that many people are embarrassed to speak in a regional accent. I don't know, many of my friends feel embarrassed if they speak with an accent, they get teased for it, even though they should be proud of it," he said when met at Gedung Joang, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (13/7/2025).

For Dul, using regional languages is a form of pride. He even readily provides a direct example. "Hey, how are you? Are you excited?" he said, imitating the typical greeting from Surabaya.

He emphasized that getting used to speaking the regional language at home is a crucial step to ensure that the culture does not disappear.

"Just preserving the mother tongue at home, in my opinion, is something that should not be forgotten," he explained.

When asked if he really applies this to his younger siblings, Dul confidently agreed. He admitted that Javanese has become the daily language at home.
