Emir Mahira Gets Chills While Shooting Horror Scenes in the Film 'TENUNG', Even Dreaming About It!

Kapanlagi.com - The film TENUNG by Risa Saraswati & Dimasta brings Emir Mahira back to the horror genre. During the gala premiere of the film held on Monday (2/6/2025) at CGV Grand Indonesia, Central Jakarta, Emir shared an interesting story behind the scenes that gave him chills.

As Ari, Emir performed many intense horror scenes involving interactions with his character's mother who is possessed. One unforgettable experience was during the shoot with Ony, the actress playing Linda, who looked terrifying.

"Honestly, sometimes it carries over into my dreams, during the shoot I would sometimes feel restless and shaky, especially since we were shooting until 2 AM, seeing Ms. Ony with that kind of makeup honestly gave me chills," said Emir Mahira.

1. The Created Horror Atmosphere

Not only visually, Emir also admitted that Linda's character makeup provides an uncomfortable sensation that supports the horror atmosphere. The smell effect from the makeup makes the atmosphere even more real.

"Very much so, that makeup also has an effect that smells a bit different, honestly, it makes me uncomfortable too, so the synthetic smell is what gives me chills, it really helps with the shooting," Emir revealed.

2. Proudly Going Through the Legal Process

Despite experiencing a scary situation, Emir continues the shooting process with pride. He describes the opportunity to act in a horror film as something enjoyable and full of challenges.

"Yes, it's indeed a lot to manage but that’s why I mean the business, I think these things are exciting for others, to experience these things, to have the opportunity to even perform scenes in that film, it's a source of pride for me, something I am always grateful for," he said.

3. Explore Ari's Character Intensively

Working under the direction of director Rizal Mantovani, Emir also had the opportunity to explore Ari's character intensively. Unfortunately, due to the short preparation time, Emir didn't have the chance to discuss directly with the story writer, Risa Saraswati.

"Coincidentally, the preparation was quite short, so there wasn't time to talk with Ms. Risa, but I had a long conversation with Mr. Rizal about what Ari's character is like," he explained.

4. Collaboration with Aisyah Aqilah

The film TENUNG also brought Emir together with Aisyah Aqilah, who plays the character Ara. The two were involved in many scenes together, which turned out to be quite enjoyable off-screen.

"It was fun, Aisyah is really playful and often jokes around, the process was very enjoyable," said Emir Mahira.

5. There Are Surprise Elements in the Movie Tenung

Meanwhile, from the story side, Emir mentioned that the main attraction of this film is the surprise elements that keep the audience guessing throughout the film.

"In my opinion, the interesting part of Tenung is the guess who element. I think that’s what makes it exciting to watch until the end, even I’m like, who could it be," he said.

6. Now Showing in Theaters

The horror film produced by Manoj Punjabi and directed by Rizal Mantovani has been haunting theaters in the country since June 5, 2025.

"I’m not too convinced yet, but I’m open to the idea, there are many things I don’t know yet," Emir concluded when asked about his beliefs regarding tenung.
