Fear of Playing a Religious Film, Steffi Zamora Reveals Why She Finally Accepted the Role in 'PENGIN HIJRAH'

The beautiful actress Steffi Zamora greets her fans again through her latest big screen project titled PENGIN HIJRAH. However, who would have thought that behind her enthusiasm lies a great doubt when she first received the offer to play the main character, Alina.

Bluntly, the 24-year-old woman admitted that she felt scared when she heard the title of the film presented to her. She worried that the story would be too heavy and preachy, a genre she had tried to avoid.

"I was actually a bit scared when I first heard the title 'Pengin Hijrah'," Steffi Zamora revealed at a press conference in Cikini, Central Jakarta, Sunday (24/8/2025).

The concern arose because she did not want to be trapped in a role in a religious film that was heavily laden with a heavy preaching atmosphere. She was afraid that it would become a burden for her in acting.

However, all those doubts vanished instantly after she discussed more deeply with director Jastis Arimba and the production team from Sinemata Buana Kreasindo. After reading the complete script, Steffi found that this film actually has a fresh and different approach from what she had imagined.

The film PENGIN HIJRAH tells the spiritual journey of Alina (Steffi Zamora), a girl whose life is shaken after her inappropriate photo goes viral due to her boyfriend, Zoe (Daffa Wardhana). In the midst of despair, she meets Omar (Endy Arfian) who takes her on a journey to find the true meaning of hijrah all the way to Uzbekistan.

Challenges come not only from character depth but also from the shooting process, which took place in three locations with extreme weather, from snow in Mount Chimgan, Uzbekistan, to the heat of the Belitung coast, posing a unique test for the entire crew and cast. Endy Arfian even had to learn the Uzbek language for his role.

"In this film, I also learned the Uzbek language. At first, it was quite difficult, but during the shooting there, I received a supportive environment so I could deliver the dialogues convincingly," said Endy Arfian.
