Following Health Protocols, 'Indonesian Idol' Final Audition Makes Main Judges Comment Like in Public Restrooms

Kapanlagi.com - A few months after the end of the tenth season, RCTI is holding the Indonesian Idol Special Season. Due to the pandemic, the audition process has been conducted online from June to the end of August through three platforms, namely Metube, Facebook, and Instagram.

Indeed, online auditions have been implemented in the previous season. However, it was unexpected that the interest in this season would be so high that it broke the previous record.

"With this pandemic situation, we actually received the highest number of voice samples. Usually, there are 20,000 online submissions, but this time it reached 37,000. This is a significant increase considering the short duration, not long," said Dini Putri, the Director of Programming and Production at RCTI during a press conference on Thursday (11/11/2020).

"Thank God we got 37,000, this is breaking a new record. We used Metube, Facebook, and on Instagram, they collaborated with prominent musicians. We don't want them to just upload their submissions," added Fabian Dharmawan, the Production Operation Coordinator at RCTI in the same occasion.

The obstacle then is the selection of thousands of incoming videos. Because the RCTI team must really sort out which ones are worthy to be presented to the main judges in Jakarta, namely Ari Lasso, Maia Estianty, Judika, Anang Hermansyah, and Rossa who fill the empty seat of Bunga Citra Lestari.

"The challenge we face is more complicated in assessing the voice because it could be that someone is very interested, the voice has been adjusted during the online audition. But when they come and sing, it doesn't match. But if someone is good, they are really good. I believe the judges already have their own champions waiting to appear in Spekta," explained Dini Putri.

2. Like Public Toilets

Considering it is held during a pandemic, auditions in front of the main judges are also carried out following health protocols. Ari Lasso even remarked that the arrangement of their seats is similar to public toilets.

"You can see the seating arrangement, the judges' words are like boarding houses, public toilets. But this is to maintain the comfort of the judges and contestants. The protocols are very strict. Sometimes we think, this is a difficult journey, but now we are satisfied in the middle of the road," Fabian concluded.
