The frontman of Dewa 19, Ahmad Dhani, has once again brought up his past disputes with Maia Estianty. This step is taken by Dhani to clarify the chronology of their divorce to protect his daughter, Safeea Ahmad, who has often become a target of online criticism due to the ongoing old narratives.

"So in that marriage, there is a religious marriage, and there is a marriage registered with the KUA, which is recognized by the state. So, in terms of religion, many people don’t know that I was the one who divorced Maia Estianty three times directly in December 2006," said Ahmad Dhani when met in the Kemang area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Dhani emphasized that the public has misunderstood who ended the marriage. He explained that the decision for the triple talaq happened long before Maia filed an official lawsuit in court in the middle of the following year.

"Then, Maia Estianty filed for divorce from me at the Religious Court in April 2007. Usually, a divorce lawsuit is quick. You can check it, so usually, a divorce lawsuit doesn't take long," he said.

Dhani also highlighted the lengthy legal process at the Religious Court, which took six years. According to him, the delay in the verdict until 2013 was a strategy that essentially favored his side, especially regarding the custody of his youngest child, Dul Jaelani.

"Well, this was filed in April 2007 and only decided in 2013. This means there are 6 years. Why 6 years? Because essentially, we are talking about the essence. Essentially, the victory is on my side. Because it was decided after 6 years, it means in 2013, Dul, my youngest child, was already able to choose who to live with. So actually, for those 6 years, the custody rights remained with me," he explained.

Dhani's decision to speak firmly in public was driven by his love for Safeea Ahmad. The 15-year-old teenager is said to often receive negative comments that corner her as a result of past content that has been brought up again.

"No, actually when it touches on my daughter, I can't just stay silent. My daughter Safeea is now 15 years old, so I can't remain silent about the narratives that have developed that ultimately corner my daughter," said Dhani.

Dhani regrets Maia Estianty's attitude, which is considered to often talk about the past in various podcast safaris. This is seen as a trigger for netizen attacks on Safeea, so Dhani feels he must act to protect justice for his family.
