"Dad is not usually someone who talks a lot like that. Because my dad is quite reserved. He is someone who observes, watches, and only comments at the end," said Haykal Kamil in the Depok area recently.

"But yesterday he (Haykal's father) was really like someone who, what can I say? It was like he couldn't find the words, a bit confused about what to say. Because the incident happened so quickly. And it was indeed unexpected that the termites were that severe," he continued.

According to Haykal, the main cause of his parents' house collapsing was termites that were gnawing at the wooden structure of the building. Haykal explained that those termites had already damaged the interior.

Meanwhile, the exterior covered with gypsum still looked fine. So, unbeknownst to them, those termites had already gnawed through almost all the wood in the house.

"Even if there are visible termites, they might only be in the corners, you know. So, I can't imagine that there would actually be a whole area dominated by termites. In fact, there are many pieces of wood that have already come apart from each other, they have actually fallen," said Haykal.

Haykal added that some pieces of wood had even detached from each other. Fortunately, they were still held up by the cables installed in the ceiling. Those cables were the only thing preventing it from completely collapsing.

"It's just that at the top there are many internet cables, there are electrical cables, and so on. Those cables are what are actually holding it up. Because it’s really very fragile, you know," he added.

Haykal Kamil realizes how lucky their family is that this incident did not result in any casualties. Haykal cannot imagine if, at the time of the incident, there had been someone right under the ceiling.

Haykal is really concerned about the safety of his family members, especially his little nephew. Haykal feels grateful that his one-year-old nephew was not in the collapsed area.

"And luckily, there were no people underneath when it happened yesterday. If I thought there were people, especially that one-year-old nephew, the story would be very different," he said.
