Honoring the Heroes, Marcella Zalianty Becomes the Initiator of the Theatrical Performance of Jalasena Admiral Malahayati

In order to remind us again of the contributions of these fighters, Marcella Zalianty initiated the presence of the theatrical performance 'Jalasena Admiral Malahayati' The Heroic Story of the First Female Admiral in the World.

It is planned that this performance will be held at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, on September 8-9, 2023. This performance is also held to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the Indonesian Navy.

Marcella Zalianty, as a producer, initiated the staging of the heroic story of Admiral Malahayati even before Malahayati was declared a national hero in 2017. Along the way, the idea of ​​initiating research that would be interesting if expressed in the form of theatrical performance came up.

By collaborating with Jay Soebijakto as artistic director and Iswadi Pratama as director to bring Malahayati's story into the theatrical performance. The script is adapted from a feature film script and the research conducted by Marcella Zalianty and Keana Production.

The staging of 'Jalasena Admiral Malahayati' also involves film actors, theater actors from Koma, Barata wayang orang, as well as personnel from Kowal and Marine Corps and several high-ranking officers of the Indonesian Navy. The full support and collaboration with the Indonesian Navy in this performance is inseparable from the figure of Malahayati, who is the world's first female admiral and has fought to earn respect for Indonesia, especially Aceh, and to show that Indonesia is a strong maritime country.

Born in Aceh Besar on January 1, 1550, with the original name Keumalahayati, she is known as the first female admiral in the world who dedicated herself to the Sultanate of Aceh, led by Sultan Alauddin Riayat Syah al-Mukammil. In a battle against the Portuguese in the waters of Teluk Haru, Malacca Strait in 1586, she lost her husband, Admiral Tuanku Mahmuddin bin Said Al Latief.

She could not accept this reality and was determined to seek revenge by forming Inong Balee, a war force consisting of 2,000 personnel, all of whom were women. One of the greatest successes of the Inong Balee forces led by Admiral Malayahati was breaking the resistance of the Dutch fleet led by two brothers, Cornelis de Houtman and Frederik de Houtman.
