The senior dangdut singer Iis Dahlia apparently has a hidden hope for her old age. Although her children, Salshadilla Juwita and Devano Danendra, are already adults, she secretly prays that one of them will want to stay with her after getting married.
However, behind that hope, Iis Dahlia shows a very realistic and understanding attitude. She is well aware that living with in-laws is not an easy thing and can create feelings of discomfort or 'rikuh' for her future son-in-law.
The wife of Satrio Dewandono understands that every new couple certainly longs for privacy and freedom to build their own household.
"My child is indeed my child, but a daughter-in-law might have some awkwardness. Let alone a daughter-in-law, even my parents might have some awkwardness, right?" she said when met in the area of Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang, South Jakarta, Thursday (2/4/2026).
The singer, affectionately known as Mama Isda, can imagine how a daughter-in-law might feel wanting to relax or try a new recipe without feeling watched by her in-laws.
"I mean, they might want their own privacy, want to cook different food, want to relax, maybe just want to take it easy. Living in the in-laws' house is definitely uncomfortable, like that," she continued.
Although in her heart she still prays for a child to accompany her in her old age, in the end Iis Dahlia chooses to surrender and accept whatever decision her children will make later.
"Even though I pray that there will be a child who wants to live at home. But oh well, I also understand," she said.
Now, Iis Dahlia chooses to enjoy her time together with her husband. She considers this as a phase of 'dating again' before her children truly start their own families.
"Back to basic, dating again with their father. So enjoying old age together, we’ve already been through the dating phase," she concluded casually.
