Indonesia Menari 2021 Returns with a Virtual Concept, Involving 3 Outstanding Indonesian Choreographers

Kapanlagi.com - Since 2012, Indonesia Kaya proudly introduced the Indonesia Menari program with a mission to bring traditional dances closer or introduce them to the public in a modern way. With great enthusiasm from the public, the Indonesia Menari program has been consistently held every year.

However, in 2020, the Indonesia Menari program had to be canceled due to the need to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, even though the pandemic situation is still ongoing, Indonesia Menari is once again presented to fulfill the longing of art lovers, but of course in a new format, which is virtual.

"During the Indonesia Menari event, we have seen the enthusiasm of people from various regions to participate in this activity. Based on that, we are bringing back Indonesia Menari, which can be participated individually in the digital space, to fulfill and relieve the longing of the public for activities that are usually held regularly every year and only in several major cities in Indonesia. Hopefully, with the virtual implementation of Indonesia Menari, more art enthusiasts and new dance lovers from various, even all other cities in Indonesia, can participate in this activity from their respective homes," said Renitasari Adrian, Program Director of Indonesia Kaya in a press release received by KapanLagi.com.

Unlike previous years, this year Indonesia Menari can only be participated by individual participants. This is in line with the government's appeal to #DiRumahAja (Stay at Home), maintain distance, and avoid crowds to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia.

1. Presenting 3 Famous Choreographers

In this program, Indonesia Kaya targets around 10 thousand participants from various cities in Indonesia. Participants will showcase their skills to compete for a total prize of hundreds of millions of rupiah presented by www.indonesiakaya.com.

Like previous years, Indonesia Menari this time also consists of 3 rounds, namely the preliminary round, semi-final, and final. Art enthusiasts interested in participating in Indonesia Menari can join the Indonesia Menari Virtual 2021 event from September 1, 2021, to October 10, 2021.

What's special is that Indonesia Menari Virtual 2021 also features 3 accomplished Indonesian choreographers from different generations, namely Didik Nini Thowok, Eko Supriyanto, and Ufa Sofura.

"Being a choreographer in Indonesia Menari Virtual 2021 is a very enjoyable experience. Together with Eko Supriyanto and Ufa Sofura, we are 3 choreographers from different generations. We strive to create and integrate movements in our respective dance genres and meet in person in Jakarta in early 2021 with strict health protocols to combine each choreography we create into one dance that is certainly beautiful and easy to follow by anyone. In addition to being choreographers in Indonesia Menari Virtual 2021, the three choreographers mentioned above will also serve as the main judges. Didik Nini Thowok CS will combine 3 dance genres, namely traditional, contemporary, and modern, with a duration of 1 minute.

For the songs, there are 5 regional songs, namely Suwe Ora Jamu (Central Java), Apuse (Papua), Indung-Indung (East Kalimantan), Rambadia (North Sumatra), and Pakarena (South Sulawesi) which will be arranged by Eka Gustiwana to color the preliminary round of Indonesia Menari Virtual 2021.

2. Terms and Conditions for Participating in Indonesia Menari

Indonesia Menari Virtual 2021 is divided into 3 categories for prospective participants:

A.Category A: Ages 19 and above (September 1-5, 2021)   
B.Category B: Ages 13-18 (September 8-12, 2021)  
C.Category C: Ages 6-12 (September 15-19, 2021)

In this preliminary round, participants can perform choreography that can be seen through the website and YouTube channel of IndonesiaKaya starting from August 12, 2021, then upload the dance recording according to the respective category's time period to their personal Instagram account with the following terms and conditions:

??1.One Instagram account is only for one participant. Participants who do not have a personal Instagram account can use the account of another person/institution, while still adhering to the same rules.
2.The video must remain on the participant's Instagram feed during the Indonesia Menari Virtual 2021 process.
3. Do not lock or make private Instagram accounts during the Indonesia Menari 2021 event. Locked accounts will be automatically disqualified.

- Video Requirements:
1.  Must use framing and music from Indonesia Menari Virtual 2021 Preliminary provided at this link HERE.
2. Recording must be done in full with the provided music, following the duration of the music, and in a conducive environment (No other disturbing sounds are expected).
3. Ensure choreography and music are well synchronized.
4. Video recording should be done in one direction from the front without any movement (Tripods or similar tools can be used).
5. Video recording can be done using any type of device, including mobile phones or digital cameras.
6. The video should capture all movements clearly without any part of the body being left out of the video frame.
7. Video quality does not affect the judging process, but it is expected to have good and clear quality to assist in the judging process.
8. Video can be taken indoors or outdoors with sufficient lighting.
9. Videos should not contain watermarks from video editing applications.

In this preliminary round, participants are also required to include the hashtags #MenariDiRumahAja, #IndonesiaMenariVirtual2021, and the appropriate category hashtag; #IMVKatA (category A) or #IMVKatB (category B) or #IMVKatC (category C). In addition to the hashtags, participants are also required to write their Full Name, Category, Province of Origin as stated in the registration form, and the phrase 'Cinta Budaya, Cinta Indonesia' (Love Culture, Love Indonesia).

Meanwhile, for the costumes, participants can wear Ethnic Modern-themed clothing, a collaboration of ethnic-inspired clothing with a modern touch that is comfortable to wear, without hindering movement and without dance props.

After participating in the preliminary round, the Indonesia Kaya jury team will select 100 lucky participants from each category to advance to the semifinals on September 25-29, 2021. From the 100 participants, the top 20 participants from each category will be selected to participate in the final round on Sunday, October 10, 2021, and can be watched virtually on YouTube IndonesiaKaya at 13:00 WIB, which also coincides with the 8th Anniversary of Galeri Indonesia Kaya and the 3rd Anniversary of Taman Indonesia Kaya.
