Famous lawyer Hotman Paris urges the government to be firmer this time if they want to suppress the spread of the virus. If necessary, violators of health protocols should be given strict sanctions, as implemented by countries that have successfully reduced the spread.

"I still adhere to the principle that the sanctions should be harsher. I disagree with people who do not wear masks being asked to dance or clean the gutters, that will not make them deterred. In Singapore, those who violate the rules are fined 300 dollars. And there is no collusion, they are immediately fined 300 dollars. Italy, which had the worst (spread), ended up in total lockdown. And anyone who leaves their house is immediately put in jail," said Hotman when met in the Kapten Tendean area, South Jakarta, on Thursday (10/9/2020).

1. Firm Actions Make It Finish Quickly

Imposing penalties or detaining offenders will certainly burden them, especially for people with low economic status. However, this will make them obedient.

"I agree more if those who violate health protocols are detained by the police. But if not wearing a mask, impose a fine of three million rupiahs like in Singapore. It affects everyone, the longer the economy, the more difficult it becomes. It is better to be firm, so it will finish quickly," emphasized Hotman.

2. Food from Outside is Sprayed

Hotman Paris himself has only been accepting work from home since March. While at home, he takes great care of himself, for example, when receiving food from outside, he immediately sprays it.

"Because I mostly work from home, now I also have to spray food deliveries from outside. So it does cost a lot. But I do it for the sake of health, of course," he said.
