Joe Taslim, whose full name is Johannes Taslim, is an Indonesian action actor who is also a former professional judo athlete. He was born in Palembang on June 23, 1981. Before starting his career in the entertainment industry, Joe was a member of the Indonesian national judo team since 1997 and has achieved many accomplishments.

Recently, Joe Taslim was invited to the VINDES YouTube channel. He seemed to really enjoy the conversation with Desta, Vincent, Enzy Storia, and Hesti. Not only did he talk about his film career, but he also reminisced about his time as a judo athlete.

Joe, who had the chance to join the Indonesian National Team, has achieved many accomplishments, such as a gold medal at the Southeast Asian Judo Championship in 1999, a silver medal at the 2007 SEA Games, and a gold medal at the National Sports Week in 2008. He retired from judo in 2009 due to an injury.

"Mostly SEA Games, I participated 4-5 times in the SEA Games. In my time, the toughest competitor for Indonesians was Thailand. But now it has changed, Vietnam is also tough," explained Joe Taslim on VINDES YouTube, on Tuesday (14/10).

Joe Taslim also shared the reason for choosing judo as a sport, apparently because the training place was close to home and free of charge.

"Yes, my father allowed all sports, but he didn't want to pay for it, because my father was broke back then," he explained.

At that time, judo had few enthusiasts, and his coach Joe promised a free t-shirt to anyone who wanted to join judo practice.

After retiring, Joe started an acting career. He became widely known after his role in the action film The Raid: Redemption in 2011.
