Just for Fun, Dinar Candy Ends Up Making a Mosque Caretaker Come Down from the Mountain

The holy month of Ramadan is a special moment for DJ Dinar Candy. Instead of being busy with her disc jockey work, Dinar chooses to focus on worship and reduce worldly activities. It all started as a playful idea during a live broadcast on social media, where she initiated a unique competition that unexpectedly became a hit.

Dinar Candy shares that the initial idea came up spontaneously. She invited her followers on social media to compete in memorizing short verses from the Quran instead of spending time gossiping or engaging in other negative activities during ngabuburit.

"Initially, it was just for fun.... Like at first, 'Ah, rather than during the fasting month,' I really didn't take any DJ jobs at all, but I still took on filming, right? Then I reduced my activities because I really wanted to focus on worship," she said when met in the area of Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang, South Jakarta, Monday (02/03/2026).

Dinar wants to fill her free time during fasting with positive activities. Initially, she only prepared one umrah ticket as a prize and spread the news through her Instagram Story. However, the enthusiasm of the participants was beyond expectation.

Not only mothers from study groups participated, but this impromptu Quran recitation competition also attracted the attention of professionals in the religious field. Dinar was surprised to find that the registered participants were quite impressive, ranging from Quran reciters, mosque imams, to caretakers from various corners of Indonesia.

"But eventually, those Quran reciters and mosque imams joined in, and what do you call it, those who like to be in the mosque... caretakers, yes, the caretakers participated too. It was like all the caretakers from across Indonesia joined in. 'Why do they all sound so good now?' something like that," Dinar expressed in amazement.

Seeing the extraordinary response and the increasing quality of participants, Dinar feels challenged and responsible to take this event seriously. She has also increased the number of prizes for Umrah tickets and cash worth tens of millions of rupiah as a form of appreciation.

"It feels like the ustaz (religious teachers) are joining in. I was there, thinking, 'This seems serious,' and then I made another banner like, 'Oh, let's have two Umrah tickets,' right? So actually, the prizes are going to keep increasing," she added.

Dinar now feels a great moral responsibility. She strives to provide fair assessments and give opportunities to anyone, whether they are already skilled or still learning, to receive appreciation from her in this blessed month.
