After ten years of focusing behind the scenes, Lola Amaria decided to return to acting. She became one of the cast members in Hanung Bramantyo's latest work titled GOWOK: JAVANESE KAMASUTRA.
Lola admitted that she received a direct offer from Hanung. However, she did not immediately accept it because she had to consider the readiness to face public comments about her acting.
"It took about a month to make a decision. When I finally decided to say yes, it means there will be consequences such as responsibility and others. If the result is good, we don't need to worry, but if it is disliked, we have to be prepared for criticism, suggestions, or being called bad or stiff," said Lola when met by KapanLagi.com at Gamplong Studio, Yogyakarta.
Apparently, Lola Amaria not only thinks about what people's comments will be like, but she also struggles with self-confidence. Considering that she hasn't been in front of the camera for ten years, she is afraid that her acting will disappoint the director.
"When this role was taken, the risk is not only the audience's response, but also mine. 'Am I ready? Can I do it? If I disappoint people who trust me, how does it feel?'. Mas Hanung already believes one hundred percent, so if he trusts me but I can't do it, it will be disappointing. The confidence is still lacking," said Lola.
Lola Amaria then asked to meet Hanung Bramantyo to discuss her concerns. After everything was conveyed and she received Hanung's support, Lola was determined to get involved with certain conditions.
"After reading the script, I asked to meet because there are many things I want to discuss with Mas Hanung regarding the title and content. After a long conversation, I got something, I'm okay, I want to with one thing and another," explained Lola.
Hanung Bramantyo is currently undergoing the shooting process for a film titled GOWOK: JAVANESE KAMASUTRA. This drama thriller discusses the existence of sexual shamans in the 1960s.
Hanung teamed up with Lola Amaria to play Nyai Santi, an experienced Gowok. Gowok is a term for women who teach sexuality and household matters to men before marriage.
