Marcell Siahaan Reveals Rp33 Billion in Unclaimed Song Royalties at LMKN, Here’s How to Claim!

Shocking news comes from the Indonesian music industry. The National Collective Management Institution (LMKN) has just announced an unclaimed royalty fund of Rp.33,021,150,878. This fantastic fund is the accumulation of song and music royalties collected since 2021 to the present.

This announcement was made during a plenary meeting and royalty distribution held at the LMKN Office in the Kuningan area of South Jakarta, on Tuesday (3/3/2026).

This important meeting was attended by several key figures, including Marcell Siahaan as the LMKN Commissioner for Legal and Litigation, Ahmad Ali Fahmi as the LMKN Commissioner for Information Technology and Database, and Dharma Oratmangun as the Chair of LMKN. Also present was Arie Ardian Rishadi, Director of Law Enforcement DJKI Kemenkum, who also serves as the Supervisory Board of LMKN, to ensure the transparency of this process. Here are the details.

“The data we have covers almost 2 million uses of songs. And 2 million uses of songs that are unclaimed which may involve between 30,000 to 300,000 rights holders. Both domestic and international,” said Marcell Siahaan in front of the media.

In more detail, the tens of billions of funds are divided into several categories. The largest portion comes from non-member digital royalties (Creators) amounting to over Rp 19 billion. This means that many musicians whose works are very popular on digital platforms, unfortunately, have not registered as members of the Collective Management Organization (LMK), causing their funds to be withheld.

In addition, there is an unclaimed digital unknown category amounting to Rp 5.5 billion. This issue usually arises due to discrepancies in data or metadata of the songs, such as errors in writing the title or the name of the creator, which makes it difficult for the system to identify the rightful owner of the royalties.

Not only in the digital realm, royalties from live performances collected analogously also contribute hundreds of millions of rupiah. Not to mention the related rights for record producers and performers, which each amount to billions of rupiah for the period from January to June 2025 alone.

In total, this unclaimed fund comes from nearly 2 million musical works that have been proven to be used commercially in the territory of Indonesia. Ironically, administrative obstacles and membership registration become the main barriers to these economic rights reaching the hands of artists.

In response to this, Ahmad Ali Fahmi provides a solution for musicians. He emphasizes that LMKN has opened its doors wide for rights holders to immediately make claims through their official website. However, there is a deadline that needs to be observed.

"We have announced it as of today and later we will also have a newspaper announcement to access our website page to carry out the claiming process. Yes, later the claiming process will go into the claims menu and we will verify it at LMKN. Yes, we will direct this (to enter LMK). We will guide each rights holder to become a member of LMK," explained Ahmad Ali Fahmi.

Fahmi reminded that according to the regulations, royalties that are not claimed within 2 years after the announcement will be transferred to reserve funds. Therefore, musicians and songwriters are encouraged to proactively check the status of their works and register with LMK so that their rights do not expire just like that.
