Mark Sungkar Sentenced to 1.5 Years as City Detainee in Relation to the Corruption Case of Triathlon Training Activity Funds

Kapanlagi.com - The panel of judges at the Central Jakarta District Court sentenced senior actor Mark Sungkar to 1.5 years in prison as a city detainee in the alleged corruption case of Triathlon Training Activity Funds.

The judge's verdict is lower than the demand of the Public Prosecutor (JPU). Previously, the biological father of artists Zaskia Sungkar and Shireen Sungkar was demanded by the JPU to be sentenced to 2.5 years as a city detainee.

"Judging, declares that the defendant Mark Sungkar is proven guilty of corruption as stated in the subsidiary indictment," said the Chairman of the Panel of Judges during Mark Sungkar's verdict hearing at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court, Friday (9/7/2021).

1. Serve the Remaining Sentence as a City Prisoner

"Imposing a prison sentence of one year and six months, deducted from the detention period as a city prisoner and paying a fine of Rp 50 million with the provision of serving one month in prison if the fine is not paid. The defendant Mark Sungkar is legally and convincingly guilty of committing corruption as stated in the subsidiary indictment," he continued.

The Panel of Judges decided not to revoke the current status of city prisoner held by Mark Sungkar.

"Ordering the defendant to serve the remaining sentence as a city prisoner," he said.

2. Charged with Subsidiary Indictment

In the case of alleged corruption in the Triathlon national training fund, Mark Sungkar was charged with a subsidiary indictment, with Article 3 Jo Article 18 paragraph (1) letter b of Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Jo. Law No. 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law No. 31 of 1999.

Previously reported, Mark Sungkar created and submitted a proposal for an event titled 'Era Baru Triathlon Indonesia' to the Minister of Youth and Sports, with a budget of Rp 5.072 billion, in 2017 for the 2018 Asian Games.

However, after the event took place, it was suspected that Mark Sungkar used Rp 399.7 million of the remaining money from the event to enrich himself. The total financial loss to the state from Mark Sungkar's actions is Rp 694.9 million, as reported by the BPKP audit.
