Meeting with Pope Francis Left a Deep Impression on Habib Jafar

The Pope, whose real name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio, visited Istiqlal Mosque, an important symbol in the history of Islam in Indonesia.

This meeting left a deep impression on Habib Jafar. According to Habib Jafar, Pope Francis's visit reflects his trust in Indonesia.

"The highest leader of the Catholic Church believes in Indonesia and is confident in Indonesia, so he opened his car window without hesitation, without suspicion, as a sign that he trusts us in Indonesia," he said when met at Istiqlal Mosque, Central Jakarta, Thursday (5/9/2024).

"We have been hearing these messages of peace, and now is the time for us to feel that impression of peace from the most important figure in the Catholic Church," the 36-year-old man added.

1. Indonesia in the Eyes of Pope Francis

The Pope's visit, accompanied by smiles and greetings to everyone he meets, reinforces the message of peace. The Pope's presence in Indonesia indeed leaves a profound impression, especially because this country is known for its vast diversity.

“Indonesia is a large ship that contains immeasurable diversity. Certainly, nurturing this diversity in Indonesia is a significant task,” he continued.

Pope Francis chose Indonesia, a country with a Muslim majority, not without reason. Habib Jafar believes that the Pope's choice of Indonesia certainly did not come from a vacuum. He knows that Indonesia is an important country for fostering a climate of peace among religious communities.

"The Pope comes here to build relationships with Indonesia, so that he, as a religious leader and also a state leader, namely the head of the Vatican Church and the leader of the Vatican Holy See, can build relationships with Indonesia as a predominantly Muslim country in the world and a large nation, in order to commit and work together for world peace," continued the Habib.

2. Be a Peaceful Person

Amid various global crises, Pope Francis emphasizes the importance of a collective commitment to address these issues. In his message at Istiqlal Mosque, the Pope highlighted the numerous crises facing the world today, such as the climate crisis, wars, economic crises, and social conflicts.

"We must become peaceful individuals amidst any differences that exist between us, including the religious differences between Catholics and Muslims in Indonesia," he concluded.

Pope Francis's visit is expected to be a momentum for strengthening unity and peace in Indonesia, as well as reinforcing the commitment to interfaith tolerance.
