Message from Ustaz Derry for Ojol After Attending the Funeral of Affan Kurniawan

The tragedy that befell the online motorcycle taxi driver, Affan Kurniawan, left a deep sorrow for many, including Ustaz Derry Sulaiman. He attended the funeral to offer prayers, although he arrived a bit late due to the crowd of mourners, mostly consisting of the deceased's professional colleagues.

This former guitarist of the metal band Betrayer admitted he was invited by Willy Salim to visit the grave. However, upon arriving at the location, he was both amazed and touched by the sight of a sea of online motorcycle taxi drivers coming from various regions to pay their last respects.

"Alhamdulillah, yesterday I was actually invited by Willy Salim, asking me to accompany him there. But since we took a car, we arrived last, late," said Ustaz Derry Sulaiman.

Seeing the view, he couldn't hide his feelings of emotion. According to him, the solidarity shown by the online motorcycle taxi drivers is an extraordinary proof of solidarity and deserves a thumbs up.

"The ojol friends are indeed amazing in their enthusiasm. Masya Allah from Tasik, I am," he continued when met in the area of Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang, South Jakarta, on Monday (01/9/2025).

"We are touched to see how the ojol friends have such high solidarity," added Ustaz Derry.

Even though he couldn't witness the burial process directly, he still offered prayers by the grave and provided a little assistance to the grave diggers there.

As a form of his concern, Ustaz Derry also conveyed an important message that touches the heart for all online motorcycle taxi drivers who struggle on the roads every day.

"Be careful on the road, Ojol drivers, don’t speed," is his message.

He reminded them that there are beloved family members who are always waiting for their safe return home. "There are people waiting for you at home, your children, your wives, eee... your parents, so be careful," he concluded.
