Rieke Diah Pitaloka Urges the Police and Reminds the DPR After the Affan Kurniawan Tragedy

Kapanlagi.com - Rieke Diah Pitaloka expressed a firm stance following the funeral of Affan Kurniawan, an ojol driver who passed away. She considers this case a serious warning for the government and the authorities.

"My statement is clear, there should be a thorough investigation into Affan's death and the Indonesian Police should take a persuasive approach in resolving demonstrations. I also ask President Prabowo Subianto because to me, one citizen's life is very valuable," said Rieke at TPU Karet Bivak, Central Jakarta, Friday (29/8/2025).

1. Evaluation of the Police Elite Ranks

The PDI Perjuangan politician emphasized the importance of evaluating the elite ranks of the police. According to him, cases like this are not the first, and may just be the tip of the iceberg of many issues on the ground.

"Cases like this did not only happen last night, but this is actually like an iceberg," he explained.

2. DPR Less Responsive

In addition to urging the police, Rieke also highlighted the attitude of the DPR, which has recently been considered less responsive to public criticism. She even stated that she is ready if her salary as a DPR member needs to be cut.

"Go ahead, if for me you want to reduce everything, that's fine. It's up to you," she said.

3. People's Representatives Should Not Be Anti-Criticism

Rieke urged her colleagues in parliament not to be easily provoked when criticized by the people. She emphasized that the people's representatives should be open to input.

"If the people criticize, if the people protest, just accept it. It means, in my opinion, I apologize if it seems like I am preaching, because from the results of going down to the field and meeting directly with the community below, the conditions are indeed not good yet," she stated.

4. Fight for Legal Umbrella for Ojol

Furthermore, he also mentioned that the struggle for a legal umbrella for ojol will continue. One of them includes opposing the increase in BPJS contributions that burden workers.

"Currently, we are fighting for a clear legal umbrella for our ojol friends so that there are legal regulations that provide justice, protection, and welfare. My friends and I in the ojol community are also fighting to prevent any increase in BPJS contributions," concluded Rieke.
