Mother Suffering from Alzheimer's, Fairuz A Rafiq Says Mom Now Spends More Time at Home

In the midst of the happiness of observing Ramadan, Fairuz A Rafiq harbors sadness regarding the health condition of his beloved mother. It is known that his mother has been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for about the last three years. This condition has drastically reduced her physical abilities to the point where she can no longer engage in activities outside the home.

Fairuz recounts that his mother now has difficulty walking and spends most of her time lying down. A feeling of longing often arises in Fairuz's heart when he sees others still able to take their parents out for a walk or just to eat out.

"Alhamdulillah there have been many improvements, developments like that. But indeed Mama can no longer leave the house. Why? Because her physical condition has reached a point where she really needs a lot of help. She can't sit for long, and lying down, well, she can do that more often," said Fairuz A Rafiq when met in the Tendean area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (24/2/2016).

Alzheimer's disease also makes the mother's memory unstable. Fairuz revealed that often her mother forgets the faces of her children and grandchildren, so they have to continuously remind her of memories every time they visit.

"Sometimes she remembers me, sometimes she remembers her children, sometimes she doesn't. So yesterday she should have recognized friends, recognized all Mama's friends... it was really sad to see. This is Mama's grandchild. Usually, when she's reminded, she's happy. Even though we often visit, she forgets again," she continued.

As a son-in-law, Sonny Septian also strives to provide entertainment for his mother-in-law. He often invites his children to perform in front of their grandmother, such as singing or reciting the Quran, with the hope that it can serve as a remedy and bring happiness in her old age.

"Later we will have a performance, Kakak Eijaz will sing in front of grandma. Abang Faaz will recite for grandma like that. So, insya Allah, it will be a remedy for Neni. No matter how small the effort is, I hope the entertainment we provide can reach her," said Sonny Septian.
