Musician Ahmad Dhani has officially taken on a new status as a grandfather. This follows the birth of the first child of his eldest son, Al Ghazali, and Alyssa Daguise, who was born on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Even though he has a grandchild, the leader of Dewa 19 has a special request regarding what he wants to be called. He does not want to be called grandpa or opa, but instead prefers the name 'Jidi'.
"I have become Jidi. Jidi means grandpa," said Ahmad Dhani when met at the JWCC Asih Hospital in South Jakarta, Sunday (10/05/2026).
Ahmad Dhani recounted that he received the news of the birth just as he woke up in the morning. The birth of his grandchild happened very quickly just moments before he was about to take a shower.
"I woke up at 8 in the morning, I was about to take a shower, and that (Al & Alyssa's baby) was born. Just like that. When I woke up in the morning, the baby was born," said Ahmad Dhani.
Regarding the delivery process, Dhani revealed that Alyssa Daguise chose to give birth naturally. Although the process of contractions and dilation took quite a long time, Alyssa remained steadfast in her choice.
"Yes, it's good, because now it's rare for people to give birth naturally, right? It's rare now to have natural births," said Ahmad Dhani.
When asked about the changes in Al Ghazali, who is now a parent, Dhani gave a relaxed answer. He feels that the responsibility Al is taking on is a normal thing for a man. "Yeah... all husbands are like that," said Ahmad Dhani.
Ahmad Dhani immediately rushed into the hospital to see the condition of his first grandchild. He wanted to quickly confirm the resemblance of the baby, who has been said to be very beautiful by Al Ghazali.
