Through the Youtube channel program on medcom.id, the story of the formation of Sheila On 7 is retold by Anton Widiastanto, who is none other than the former drummer of the music group from Yogyakarta.

1. Formed in 1996

Formed in mid-1996, initially this band was initiated by Erros and Anton. At that time, Anton, who only played music with his school friends, was challenged to be more serious in the music world and accepted Erros' invitation to form a band.

From there, the two of them eventually met Sakti, who is now a former member of Sheila On 7. Their initial meeting was filled with jamming to popular songs at that time, such as Oasis, U2, and Bon Jovi.

Feeling incomplete, the three of them finally invited Adam, who was none other than Sakti's childhood friend, to fill the position of bassist. They started performing at several festivals with Sakti being given the responsibility to fill the vocals.

2. Won Champion Title

The skills of each player made this group win many champion titles from the band competitions they participated in. In order to expand their musical composition, they eventually added a keyboard instrument, two female vocalists, and one male vocalist who we all now know as Duta.

Named Sheila Gank, this band started performing more frequently at many music festivals and began to gain fans. Eventually, one of the Geronimo FM radio programs helped elevate their name.

3. Send Demo Song

Asked to send a demo song, at that time Sheila Gank decided to record a song titled Kita as their demo song. It didn't take long for the song to be liked by listeners and frequently requested throughout Indonesia.

At that time, several major record labels began to notice the potential of this group from Yogyakarta. Sony Music quickly moved to secure the band's signature.

Their debut album was finally released in 1999 titled Sheila On 7. The album title also served as a marker that their previous name, Sheila Gank, had transformed into Sheila On 7.

4. Anton Leaves in 2004

Anton Widiastanto himself left the band after they released their fifth album Pejantan Tangguh in mid-2004. His position was then replaced by Brian Kresna Putro until today.

Following Anton, Sakti also resigned in 2006. Practically, Erros Chandra is now the only remaining founder of the band still in Sheila On 7.

Comfortable with the 4-member formation, Sheila On 7 has successfully produced nine studio albums that have made their name among the top music groups in Indonesia.
