Novita Dewi Reveals the Moments of Her Father's Passing, Jack Marpaung's Eye Signals That Are Most Heartfelt

Singer Jack Marpaung has passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at St. Carolus Hospital, Salemba, Central Jakarta. Before his passing, the doctor stated that his body was free from infection, but Jack's condition actually worsened after leaving the ICU. He became less responsive, causing concern for his family.

"Well, the doctor had said, when he was admitted to the ICU, the doctor said, 'The infection is really good, his body is clean,' he said," she revealed.

On January 4, 2025, Jack experienced respiratory failure twice. In that critical condition, Novita and the family remained faithfully by his side.

"He came out of the ICU, moved to a room. But he was less responsive. Until finally yesterday on the 4th, he had stopped breathing for a moment, we were already shouting. He was gone, he was critical, I screamed, 'Dad, give him half an hour more, let him talk first. Talk, you know,'" explained Novita.

Jack briefly came back to life even though he was unresponsive. Only the blinking of his eyes became a small signal that he was still listening to his family.

"Dad came back to life, but he was not very responsive. He only gave a signal with his eyes, blinking them. 'If yes, blink, Dad,' like that," Novita revealed.

The family kept vigil by his side, ensuring Jack did not feel alone in his final days. They even stayed up until morning to accompany him.

"But yesterday we kept watch until we stayed overnight. It seems like he wanted to let us sleep until half past 2, because we went to sleep at half past 7, right? Around 6:30 to 7 in the morning," he said.

The wife of Alex Hutajulu said that when her father showed signs of departure, the family tried everything to help, even though they ultimately had to let him go.

"We even tried to pump his chest, but we were afraid it would break, because by the second time, dad was already in critical condition, and the doctor just seemed silent. Oh, the pulse is already weak, it's pitiful to keep pushing with medication," explained Novita.

One of the most emotional moments was when Novita tried to talk and joke with her father in his last moments. Jack even gave a small response that became an unforgettable memory for the family.

<nil>

"And indeed, half an hour or an hour before his departure, I jokingly said 'open your eyes, dad,' and he did this (seemed to open his eyes) after being closed for a long time, so when he opened them, it was really bright," he revealed.

A touching moment also occurred when Novita's child sang a song for their grandfather. Jack, who had not opened his eyes, still gave a small sign that he was listening.

"But the most touching event, whoever came, he knew, just like this, and didn't open his eyes. But I asked my child to sing close to grandpa," Novita reminisced with deep emotion.
