Often Mistaken for Personal Experience, Tria The Changcuters Emphasizes That the Song 'Hijrah Ke London' Is Just Fiction

Many fans believe that the song "Hijrah Ke London" is based on the true story of one of the members of The Changcuters who are in a long-distance relationship (LDR). However, the fact is that the song is purely the result of the imagination and fantasies of its members at that time.

Tria revealed that when creating the song in 2005, they just wanted to make a piece that had a strong English musical vibe. Regarding the details of the story, he emphasized that there is no element of truth behind it and it is all purely fictional.

"Oh no no no, fiction fiction. Later we’ll release it on the 30th anniversary of The Changcuters, the real story behind it will be revealed. It turns out there’s something behind that," said Tria when met in the Panglima Polim area, South Jakarta, Wednesday (8/4/2026).

"No no, but this is really just fiction, so we just imagined oh indie song because it comes from England, making London, just that simple, the theme is about LDR," Tria added.

The process of creating this song was quite brief. Tria recounted that the song was born in a boarding house in Jatinangor where Dipa lived. Without needing much time, the melody and lyrics that have now become iconic were created in just one day.

"So we finally gathered with them, came and then bam-bam with the guitar, right? We finished that day. We finished that day, finished that day, finished that day," Tria said.

Although the song is themed around London, Tria admitted that his knowledge of the city at that time was still very limited. He was just trying to string together words that fit the Britpop genre that they were exploring with his bandmates.

"So in the end, 'Hijrah ke London' was indeed openly made in the Britpop genre, the song is about what? Well, it's just about London. Okay, about London, but what's the story? London can be about many things, what's the story?," he said again.

The extraordinary achievement of this song, which eventually brought them on a tour to England in 2026, is considered a manifestation of an unintentional prayer.

Tria feels amazed because their dreams from 20 years ago have now truly come true.

"Damn, why is it that every time we, for example, don't plan or expect something, it ends up happening like that," he concluded.
