Kapanlagi.com - The Joint Session of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) along with the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) took place at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (August 14, 2026). The main agenda of this annual forum is the State Address by President Prabowo Subianto, which includes a report on the performance of state institutions as well as a speech to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

Among the participants of the session, several politicians with backgrounds in the entertainment world were present. One of them is Nurul Arifin, a former actress who is now active in national politics. Her presence has drawn attention due to her consistency in pursuing a formal political path.

This year's Annual Session of the MPR RI was held concurrently with the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI at the Nusantara Building. This location became the center of a series of events that brought together elements of the MPR, DPR, and DPD in one annual momentum.

The State Address by President Prabowo Subianto became the main agenda, which includes the delivery of the performance report of state institutions and a speech to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. 1. From Entertainment World to Politics

Nurul Arifin is known as one of the public figures who transitioned from the entertainment world to the political stage. Before being active in parliament, she was already known as an actress and activist.

Her transition to politics is supported by formal education in political science from the University of Indonesia. This academic background serves as a foundation for her institutional roles in the future.

In addition, she has experience as an activist working on issues related to women, AIDS, and drugs. This involvement has shaped her concern for various social issues that she later championed in her endeavors.

2. Track Record in the DPR and Public Positions

Nurul's parliamentary career began when she was elected as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the Golkar Party faction for the 2009–2014 period, representing the West Java VII electoral district. During that period, she was active in the work of the faction and the council's supporting bodies.

In the DPR, she was involved in Commission II, which oversees domestic government, regional autonomy, state apparatus, as well as discussions on political regulations and elections. This involvement placed her at the forefront of governance and electoral policy issues.

Before taking a legislative seat, Nurul also had experience as a political science lecturer at the National University. This academic background supports her arguments and perspectives in the legislative process.

From 2014–2017, she was entrusted as a special staff member to the leadership of the DPR. This role expanded her experience in policy support and coordination at the leadership level of the legislative institution.

3. Regional Contestation and Latest Mandate

Nurul Arifin also tried her luck in the regional contest. She ran as a candidate for Mayor of Bandung in the 2018 Pilkada paired with Chairul Yaqin Hidayat, although she ultimately did not succeed in winning the election.

After failing to return to parliament in the 2014 elections, Nurul was re-elected as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives in the 2019 elections from the West Java I electoral district. This achievement brought her back to the national legislative seat.

In the 2024 elections, she again received a mandate for the 2024–2029 period. With this new mandate, her political career continues within the framework of parliamentary work.

In 2025, Nurul advocated for strategic women's issues to be translated into real policies in parliament. The focus includes violence against women, health, economy, leadership, and women's representation in decision-making.
