Prince Lantang and Carissa Perusset Star in Horror Film Set in Papua 'SUANGGI: CURSED KNOWLEDGE'

Kapanlagi.com - The Indonesian film industry is currently being enlivened by the presence of horror genre titles. Because most of them are set in Java, Mutiara Films and Subtube Studio took advantage of this opportunity to present a scary film set in Eastern Indonesia titled SUANGGI: CURSED KNOWLEDGE.

Suanggi is the term used for a shaman who possesses black magic and uses it to kill people. That is what is being portrayed in the film by Dom Dharmo.

"We wanted to make a film that highlights Papua. Since horror films are currently popular, we decided to focus on Suanggi, which is a local wisdom in Eastern Indonesia," said Bona Pascal, the producer, during a press conference in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on Saturday (25/5).

1. Challenges for the Main Cast

The main cast of SUANGGI: CURSED KNOWLEDGE are Pangeran Lantang and Carissa Perusset. Although they have acted in many films and series, it is not easy when they were invited to be involved in this production.

"There hasn't been a horror film about Papua, that's why I wanted to be involved. I also learned a lot about Papua culture that I didn't know before. It feels like starting from scratch again," said Carissa on the same occasion.

"This film is challenging for me because the dialect and language are very difficult. Fortunately, I am assisted by a cast from Papua, so I can continue to learn," added Pangeran.

2. Filming in Bogor and Sorong

SUANGGI: CURSED KNOWLEDGE will start the filming process on May 27, 2024. The first eleven days will be located in Bogor, then move to Sorong for sixteen days.

This film tells the story of Beni, a singer who has no jobs and is burdened with hundreds of millions of debts. He then invites his lover to return to his hometown in Karangkas Island with the aim of stealing his sick mother's wealth. Beni's return is greeted by supernatural events. What is the cause?
