Prosecutor Doubts Fariz RM's Desire to Recover from Drugs, Legal Counsel Provides Firm Answer

Prosecutor Doubts Fariz RM's Desire to Recover from Drugs, Legal Counsel Provides Firm Answer

The plea submitted by the legal team of musician Fariz RM in the drug case was rejected by the Public Prosecutor (JPU). The rejection was announced during the follow-up hearing scheduled for the reading of the rebuttal at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday (14/8/2025).

Deolipa Yumara, Fariz RM's legal counsel, revealed that the JPU rejected several crucial points in her client's defense. However, she emphasized that they do not feel disappointed and view this as merely a difference in legal interpretation.

According to Deolipa, one of the main arguments of the prosecutor is Fariz RM's physical condition, which does not look like that of a heavy addict. The prosecutor assesses that his client appears healthy and does not show severe withdrawal symptoms.

In addition, the public prosecutor also doubts Fariz RM's serious intention to recover, considering this is his recurring case. Deolipa firmly dismissed that argument and stated that the desire to recover can only be assessed by Fariz himself.

Even though all his defenses were refuted, Deolipa emphasized that his side remains rational and does not get carried away by emotions. For him, legal argumentation is a normal thing in court.

"Oh, he wants to recover, but in his mind, there are still seeds of narcotics in the cells of his brain. So that’s what we want to cleanse through rehabilitation," he explained.

He explained that although repeatedly entangled, his client has a sincere desire to recover, but is hindered by the effects of addictive substances still present in his body, which he believes can only be eliminated through rehabilitation.

"One of the points in his reply is to state that if an addict is going to struggle, they must go through this and that, because that's what an addict does," Deolipa said after the trial.

"So Fariz RM has already stated in his plea that he wants to recover. But the prosecutor says there is no desire to recover. Well, the one who knows whether he wants to recover or not is Fariz RM, not the prosecutor," Deolipa emphasized.

"It turns out that Bang Fariz RM is just fine. That is what makes the difference in interpretation," he continued.

"Oh, with the prosecutor we are never disappointed. Because there is always rationality in making arguments. So if we don't know disappointment," he concluded. The legal team will provide a reply (duplicate) at the next hearing on August 21, 2025.
