Refusing to be Called Ustazah, Angelina Sondakh's Story of Switching from Politics to Dawah Safari

Angelina Sondakh shares her life journey from being a member of the DPR to now. Many lessons have been learned by the wife of the late Adjie Massaid during her career as a politician, and now she chooses to focus on seeking blessings from her life experiences.

"Alhamdulillah, if before it was political safari, now it's dawah safari, Alhamdulillah, before it was about seeking votes, now it's about seeking rewards, Allah has destined it beautifully, what matters is how we express our gratitude," said Angelina Sondakh when met in the Tendean area, South Jakarta, on Monday (5/8/2024).

Angelina explained that her main goal now is to share experiences with others, especially about the world of politics. "Actually, it's more about sharing my experiences with others so that if anyone is curious about what politics is like, I can spill a little bit so they won't be shocked when they dive into real politics," she said.

She also revealed her new focus in preaching. "Whatever things that can shake faith, what's important is that lately I've been sharing about how the Quran serves as a guide in life, Insya Allah whatever happens our mental will not be shaken," Angelina continued.

According to Angelina, sharing experiences and positive energy with others is something very meaningful to her. "But Alhamdulillah if it comes to sharing, I'm happy to provide support for those in need, transferring that positive energy is extraordinary for me, especially since every study session, their prayers for me are abundant, there are also many angels, the prayers of good people, so I always ask for prayers for my children," she revealed.

Although often preaching, Angelina refuses to be called ustazah. "First of all, I don't want to be called ustazah, because if asked which pesantren, I come from Pondok Bambu, a prison, usually ustazahs are graduates of pesantren, but I am from the pesantren of life," she said.

Angelina feels a significant change in her life after starting this spiritual journey. "The metamorphosis feels really strong, I used to fall until I couldn't fall anymore because I had fallen as low as possible, I thought I was the backbone of the family but confused about what job to do, but it turns out Allah provided two savings at once, for this world and the hereafter," she said.

She also added that although her worldly savings used to have a lot of zeros, now she feels richer with spiritual experiences and deep social relationships. "Before, my worldly savings indeed had a lot of zeros, but in the end, they disappeared too, but now for me it’s extraordinary, meeting friends in this world and friends for the grave later," Angelina emphasized.
