Sarwendah Visits the National Commission on Violence Against Women, Just Consulting and Has Not Filed a Complaint Yet

Sarwendah's visit to the National Commission on Violence Against Women has recently become a focus of attention. Many suspect that the mother of three has already filed an official report regarding the issues she is facing. However, the National Commission on Violence Against Women emphasizes that the process has not yet reached the complaint stage.

Commissioner of the National Commission on Violence Against Women, Irwan Setiawan explained that the meeting with Sarwendah was only a consultation. This means that no official complaint has been filed and processed by the institution.

"Unfortunately, the previous meeting has not yet reached the complaint stage, but was only a consultation, not yet a complaint. If it reaches the complaint stage, then the process would be as mentioned earlier," said Irwan Setiawan when met in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (24/6/2026).

"When we examine anything that is presented, the documents that are submitted, we will study them first, and then we will verify. Whoever it is, we will issue a verification letter," he added.

Irwan then explained the complaint handling procedure at the National Commission on Violence Against Women. According to him, there are four main stages that must be passed if someone wants to file an official report, namely complaint, verification, response, and recommendation.

"So if this is the complaint procedure, at our place in the National Commission on Violence Against Women, the first is the complaint, the second is verification. Verification is just like before, whoever makes the complaint, from which agency or personnel is complaining to us, we will conduct verification. The third is the response, and the fourth is the recommendation," he explained.

He also emphasized that the mandate of the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) is different from other institutions like the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM). Komnas Perempuan does not have investigative authority, but focuses on assessment, clarification, responses, and providing recommendations.

"Therefore, their mandate is different, for example, from our colleagues at Komnas HAM. They have a mandate for investigation, we do not," explained Irwan.

"In essence, he wants to consult regarding what our client has experienced. Komnas Perempuan, according to its mandate, is open to anyone who wants to consult, hold an audience, or file a complaint," concluded Irwan Setiawan.
