The Custody Lawsuit Hearing of Ruben Onsu is Held Behind Closed Doors, Starting with Mediation Stage

"Closed. Because the main issue is divorce. Divorce cases are indeed closed, and furthermore, in the interest of the child, the trial will take place behind closed doors," said Halida Rahardhini at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday (2/7/2026).

1. Started with the Mediation Process

Halida explained that, as with civil cases in general, the hearing will begin with a mediation process. If both parties reach an agreement, the case can be resolved immediately through a peace deed.

"If the hearing is generally a civil lawsuit hearing. When both parties are present, the panel of judges will carry out the mediation stage. Hopefully, during the mediation, the parties can reach an agreement so that a peace deed can be issued and the case is resolved," she explained.

2. Main Case Examination Stage

However, if the mediation is unsuccessful, the trial will proceed to the main case examination stage, starting from responses, evidence presentation, witness examination, to the judge's decision.

"If the mediation is unsuccessful, it will continue to the main case examination, which includes responses, replies, rejoinders, evidence examination, witness examination if presented by the parties, conclusions, and finally the panel's decision," said Halida.

3. Ruben Onsu and Sarwendah Must Attend

The court also emphasized that both Ruben and Sarwendah are required to attend the trial. However, if the defendant still does not appear despite being duly summoned, the trial can continue according to the provisions of civil procedural law.

"Mandatory. If the opposing party does not attend, the examination of the case will still be conducted and can proceed in absentia without the presence of the defendant," concluded Halida.
