Fariz RM Faces Defamation Report from Syahravi, Copyright Dispute Heats Up

Kapanlagi.com - The legal dispute between senior musician Fariz RM and singer Syahravi is getting hotter. After previously reporting Syahravi for alleged copyright infringement of the song Di Antara Kata, Fariz RM now has to face a counter-report from the singer accusing him of defamation. The dispute, which started from the controversy over the permission to use the song, has now escalated into mutual reports to the police.

Nevertheless, Fariz RM's camp claims not to be worried about the report submitted by Syahravi. Fariz RM's lawyer, Deolipa Yumara, emphasized that the substance of the case is still related to the alleged copyright infringement, particularly regarding the permission to use the song Di Antara Kata, which was claimed to have never been given directly by Fariz RM as the song's creator.

1. Not Questioning Syahravi's Claim

"So here it is, let’s clarify the substance again. So Fariz RM indeed reported who? Syahravi. Now, to avoid criminal charges, it’s not us who are mentioning it. So reporting this person earlier, the 'S' person, right?" said Deolipa Yumara at the South Jakarta Metro Police, Tuesday (30/6/2026).

Deolipa explained that they do not question Syahravi's claim that he has obtained permission to perform the song. However, according to him, the permission in question did not come from Fariz RM as the copyright holder, but from someone with the initials SN. That is the basis for the report of the alleged copyright infringement.

2. Allegedly Never Asked for Permission from Fariz RM

"Well, actually, he never asked for permission from Fariz RM. He, the 'S' person earlier, asked someone named 'SN' for permission," he continued.

Furthermore, Deolipa stated that the 'S' party did not ask for permission from Fariz RM. The permission obtained by Syahravi is said to be from SN, who does not have a strong legal basis. This is because the song Di Antara Kata is said not to be included in the list of works regulated in the agreement between Fariz RM and the party with the initials SN. Therefore, according to him, that permission cannot serve as a legal basis for using the song.

"So this agreement also does not fall into the category of the 'S'. Then the song 'Di Antara Kata' is also not included in this agreement. So everything is illegal. Illegal meets illegal, that's it," he asserted.

3. The Allegation is Said to Have No Criminal Elements

In response to the defamation report filed by Syahravi, Deolipa also assessed that the allegation has no criminal elements. He emphasized that all statements made by Fariz RM so far are based on facts and directly related to the ongoing legal process.

"Mr. 'S' reported Mr. Fariz RM. But he reported because he said he had asked for permission, right? But he asked for permission from someone who is not the rightful owner," he concluded.

4. Controversy Over the Use of the Song 'Di Antara Kata'

The dispute between Fariz RM and Syahravi originated from the controversy over the use of the song Di Antara Kata. Fariz RM believes that his created song was used without his direct permission as the creator, while Syahravi claims to have obtained permission through another party that is considered to have authority.

The differing views regarding the validity of that permission ultimately brought both parties into the legal path. Now, the legal process is still ongoing, and each party continues to maintain its arguments.
