The Family Feels the Loss of Ramadan This Year Without Vadel Badjideh

Kapanlagi.com - This Ramadan feels different for the Badjideh family. For the first time, they are observing fasting without the presence of Vadel Badjideh, who is currently detained at the South Jakarta Metro Police as a suspect in a case of alleged underage sexual intercourse and abortion.

Bintang Badjideh, Vadel's sister, admitted that the moments of sahur and breaking the fast have been the most felt loss. She revealed that the family is still trying to adapt to this situation.

“Yes, we felt it during breaking the fast and at the first sahur and breaking the fast, it really felt like a loss, so how do you explain it in words,” said Bintang at the South Jakarta Metro Police on Tuesday (4/3/2025).

Despite being in detention, Vadel continues to observe fasting well. According to his sister, his condition is now calmer compared to before. “His fasting is going well, thank God. He is more calm now,” added Bintang.

During a visit from Bintang and Umar, Vadel expressed his longing for family togetherness during the month of Ramadan. One of the moments he misses the most is having sahur with his mother.

“He just misses breaking the fast together. When it comes to sahur, he misses mom,” said Bintang.

In addition, Bintang also noticed changes in Vadel during his time in detention. Physically, he looks more filled out because he often exercises.

“He’s grown, he keeps doing push-ups. So he’s used to dancing and then doing push-ups there, his body has really transformed. He’s also calmer, more mature like that,” he said.

2. Increased Discipline in Worship

Vadel's worship habits have also changed. Now he is more disciplined in performing prayers compared to when he was outside.

“He doesn’t miss prayers anymore. It’s good, because when he was outside, he still skipped some,” said Umar.

As a form of care, Bintang and Umar brought Vadel’s favorite food for breaking the fast. “Earlier we brought his usual food for breaking the fast, just his favorite nata de coco,” said Bintang.
