The Struggle of Sandy Syarif's Child with Strabismus, Undergoes Nearly 4-Hour Eye Surgery

Senior actor Sandy Syarif shares a touching story of struggle as a father. His second child, Mahamisha (Mischa), who is only 8 years old, had to undergo two eye surgeries due to a congenital condition she suffers from.

Shandy and Phylsa Idroes's child is known to have a condition called strabismus. This condition causes her eyes to be misaligned and unable to focus on the same object simultaneously, commonly referred to as cross-eyed.

The feeling of anxiety and fear could not be hidden from Shandy's face. He admitted to being very worried, especially because this medical procedure involves vital organs such as vision.

"The fear is actually ours, as parents, especially my wife and yes, to be honest, I am also scared because this is related to vision," Shandy Sjariff said when met in the Kapten Tendean area on Sunday (05/10/2025).

The anxiety intensified as he recalled his son's first surgery to address strabismus last December. The surgery, which was initially estimated to last only 2 hours, ended up taking almost twice as long.

"Scared, very scared, scared. Wow, this is taking a long time, 1 hour, 2 hours. At that time, it was estimated to be 2 hours, but it turned into 3 and a half hours. Wow, why are they not out yet, we haven't been contacted," he recalled.

Shandy and his wife admitted that they had some negative thoughts while waiting outside the operating room. However, he tried to calm his wife by surrendering to God's will."If I calm her down, yes, yes, this is part of the effort, right? Effort, prayer, and the result, we can only surrender to God's power," he said.

The most relieving moment was when Mischa woke up from anesthesia and could confirm that his vision was not disturbed at all. "He started to open his eyes, and we asked, 'What do you see, dear?' That's how it was. 'There are lights, Dad.' Alhamdulillah. That," he said with a relieved tone.

However, a month after the first operation, complications arose in the form of a cyst in Mischa's eye area, forcing him to undergo a second operation recently. Shandy could only hope and ask for prayers that this would be the last medical procedure for their child.
